On Religion, The Media and Life as a 20-something in Chicago

ELGIN — In his keynote address at Judson University’s first World Leaders Forum Wednesday evening, former President George W. Bush spoke about the value of principles, of faith and freedom, of entrepreneurship and leadership, according to the university. But the remark Bush made that got the most attention from Twitter users in the audience of more than 1,300 was directed to outgoing Elgin Mayor Ed Schock, who presented him with a 100-year-old pocket watch made by the Elgin Watch Co. “Fix the potholes,” Bush said, according to several posts to the popular microblogging website. Judson officials and students, area businesspeople and others who attended the event, which was closed to the media, reacted Thursday to the 43rd president’s remarks.
